Description of course projects

Course Projects

#1 Personal Carbon Footprint

For this project you are to calculate what your personal carbon impact is. By using a carbon footprint calculator you will get an idea of what aspects of your life are both the least and most carbon intensive. Try a number of different calculators, as some will be more applicable to you than others.

After conducting this assessment, develop a project that is a response to what you have learned. By ‘response” it is intended that you can take this project in a number of different directions depending on your individual approach and interests. It may be a further investigation, it may be an alteration of lifestyle, it may be simple or it may be complex.

This is a challenge. Leave your comfort zone.

There will be two presentations associated with this project. For the first presentation you will present the results of your carbon assessment and a proposed project.

The second presentation will be the written and visual materials that you have accumulated while engaged in your project. All materials are to be posted to the class blog.

Turn in all photographs 300dpi on CD and create a PDF that can be posted to class blog.

#2 Individual Project

The nature of this project is to be determined by your individual background, field of study and response to the information presented in this class. This class is open to all majors so it is expected and encouraged that there will be a wide variety of outcomes. You may approach this issue with the goal of developing and actualizing pragmatic solutions or you may approach it in a more aesthetic or conceptual manner. Perhaps you may find some interesting hybrid of these two methodologies.

There will be two presentation associated with this project. A “Research” presentation and a “Final” presentation.

This is to be a finished project. What will define a finished project for this class is:

- A project that has left the planning stage and has been or is currently in the field.

- A complete conceptual proposal for a project that is not practically possible at this time.

Turn in all photographs 300dpi on CD and create a PDF that can be posted to class blog.
